Welcome to this new adventure I have decided to embark on! I have been thinking about writing on the internet for quite some time now, and after a time of reflection, I have finally decided to start a blog. I have chosen Neocities as the hosting site as a way of escaping the algorithmic dystopia the commercial/mainstream internet has turned into. But I suppose that is something common in all Neocities users, to some extent at least.
But why have I decided to create a blog in the first place? Well, this decision may have been prompted by the uniformity of thought that I perceive in most online discourse. Discussions of any type are often compartmentalized and sold as opposing sides of the same issue. But what if these two camps are being manufactured by people that want us to only see two sides? What if there is more than that? What if to truly understand and see reality a little bit more clearly we actually have to break free from this circular ways of thinking? Maybe the answer is not in the arena they have created for us to fight into, but outside.
I have always felt like I did not belong in any side. Using that simplistic and outdated language commonly found both on the internet and outside: I have always been too progressive to hang out with the conservatives, but too conservative to be accepted by the progressives. I hope you get what I mean (excuse me for using such ridiculous terms). That is just how I am, trust me, I have tried to fit in before, but it just did not work. That is how I came to realize that these divisions are artificial, and that if I truly want to be myself I cannot dilute my personality in order to exchange it for an ‘identity’. One of the lies our generation has been sold is that our ‘identity’ is a conglomerate of tags and labels we choose to attach to ourselves, these labels being, of course, manufactured for us, just as if we were ordering a menu from MacDonald's.
I have a problem accepting the dominating narratives of our time, and I know there are more people like that out there. As most people out there, I long for connection. I have the luck of having some amazing people in my life that I resonate with (special mention to my wonderful girlfriend), but I would like to put my thoughts out there for people like me to feel less lonely, as I sometimes feel when I look at the bigger picture. That is the goal of this blog: for independent people to feel less lonely and realize that there is hope for real change, this is, the only change that is truly possible, the personal.
This will be a space devoid of politics and artificial divisions. I intend for our common humanity to be glorified, not put aside in partisan or cultural wars. I have had enough of that. The underlying theme to all my posts will be the curiosity that drives me to explore this amazing world that we all share, and all that our existence here implies. I will be discussing books, poetry, literature, art, curious things I have seen in my travels or anything that might stimulate my curiosity.
No matter who you are, feel welcome to peruse my posts and, if we do not see eye to eye in most issues, at least I hope I did not waste a lot of your time and I wish you a wonderful day, night, or whatever time it is when you are reading these lines. Again, welcome.
